Socialising with friends and peers is a very important part of young people’s development.
Whilst it is common for young people to travel by car, driving themselves and their peers to and from their social activities has been identified as a high injury risk activity.
To begin to address this key area, Youthsafe is taking a multi-stage approach. These stages are:
- literature review
- consultations with operators of alternative transport schemes
- consultations with young people about transport use and preferences
- evaluation of a Safe Alternative Transport (SAT) scheme
- actions and recommendations based on the findings
The first stage report presented findings of the literature review on youth transport needs and alternative transport options. Download this document here.
The second stage report presents consultation and survey findings with scheme operators and young people. Download this document here.
The third stage and final report is an evaluation of a community-based SAT scheme. Download a copy of the report here.
Youthsafe is pleased to announce that the new Safe Alternative Transport Scheme guidelines are completed and available. ‘Getting Them Home Safely’ is primarily designed for community based professionals who want to develop safe alternative transport arrangements for young people in their local area. The guide is designed to show you how to identify local needs, set project objectives, establish local partnerships, evaluate to measure successes and set up a program to help young people in your community to stay safe.
