| Sustainable Sports Safety for Refugee Communities |

Sport has been identified as a successful strategy for engaging young people in the refugee community, with sports-related support programs becoming increasingly popular. However, there seems to be limited risk management or injury prevention and treatment education resources for those involved. Being injured or the fear of injury has also been identified as a barrier to regular and ongoing participation in physical activity for some members of Culturally & Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. With funding from Communities NSW: Sport and Recreation, Youthsafe is developing and implementing a sustainable sports safety program for refugee sports teams within the Blacktown area. Level 1 Sports Trainer, Sports First Aid and Risk Management courses will also be offered to young people involved in refugee community sport. The initiative aims to embed sports safety into the culture of community sport and equip participants and volunteers with the skills to reduce injury and the risk of injury.
