Youthsafe recognises the high rate of serious injury of young people on our roads, and works hard to address this through a number of programs, including resources, research programs and the promotion of best practice initiatives. ResourcesFact sheet: Helping teenagers become safer drivers The fact sheet is available in English, Chinese and Arabic. The Chinese and Arabic versions were developed in consultation with Multicultural Communications and members of the Arabic and Chinese communities to: 1. Ensure that the presentation and content of the fact sheet was culturally appropriate The project not only resulted in the development of the planned fact sheets, but also a joint pilot project with the RTA to run a Chinese Graduated Licensing Scheme (GLS) workshop. The laws relating to young drivers and their safety often change, so we strongly recommend you contact the RTA to find out more information about any laws which may affect your young driver – call the RTA on 13 22 13 or visit their website www.rta.nsw.gov.au. Road safety initiativesWhile the team at Youthsafe work hard to incorporate road safety messages into all our projects, we also work on specific road safety initiatives due to its high impact on the safety and wellbeing of our young people. Our interest in Learner Driver Mentor Programs lead us to further investigate these initiatives, that support young people getting their license with the assistance of volunteer supervising drivers. Youthsafe has also been researching Safe Alternative Transport options for young people, to help them get around safely, particularly after a night out.
Education and presentations for schoolsIf you are working in a school or other education setting, you may be interested in the range of presentations Youthsafe can offer to your students or young people. See our section on Youthsafe’s presentations for more details. |
