We all know that parties and celebrations are important to young people. They provide them with an opportunity to socialise, meet other young people and to celebrate significant life events. But while parties are important for social development reasons, they can also bring into play a range of risk factors that work together to increase the risk of injury to young people.

Youthsafe has been working with individuals and organisations from across NSW to investigate the risks associated with youth parties and approaches to help make them safer. Whilst these risks have implications for a range of youth health issues, our prime concern is their impact on unintentional injuries both in the party setting and travelling to and from the party, especially on our roads.

If you are planning a project or initiative to support safer celebrations for young people, or looking for resources or information, you will find useful information, links and downloads in the following sections.

“What are the issues?” outlines the research that Youthsafe has conducted into safe celebrating over the years.

Take a look in “What’s already happening?” to find out what’s out there.

If you would like to find out what resources Youthsafe has to support your safe celebrating work, click on “Want resources?”.

Parents need support, too.  Our section “What can parents do?” may have some useful information to help parents keep their teenager safe while out with friends.

Schools can assist their students through Youthsafe’s “What’s the plan?” school presentation.

If you are planning an event, there are some sources here that could help you: “What about events?”
