Our Board of Directors

At Youthsafe we have the privilege of being lead by a dynamic, dedicated, and supportive Board of Directors, who bring independent, informed and objective views to Youthsafe’s decision making. They’re a talented bunch with a breadth of experience in areas such as rehabilitation medicine, population health, research and evaluation, communications and marketing, accountancy and finance, policy development, road safety and sports management. They are extremely approachable and have an unstinting willingness to support the team’s professional development.

President
Dr James Middleton, MBBS, PhD, FACRM, FAFRM (RACP)
Board Member since 1997. President since 1998

James is the Medical Director of the Moorong Spinal Unit at the Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney, Medical Specialist for the NSW Spinal Outreach Service and Senior Lecturer in the Rehabilitation Studies Unit, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney. He also holds an Honorary Senior Staff Specialist position in the Spinal Cord Injuries Unit at Royal North Shore Hospital. James sits on a variety of Advisory and Steering Committees for several major projects.

Peter Corcoran, OAM, JP, Dip T, Dip Ed (Indust. Art)
Board Member since 1995. Vice President since 1998

Peter is currently National Education and Training Manager with the Australian Rugby League Foundation. Peter is also Chair of the Australian Coaching Council Board (ASC Program), Deputy Chair of the NSW Sport and Recreation Industry Training Advisory Board, a Director of the Newcastle Knights and a Director of Sport NSW.

Ian Bourne, CA
Board Member since January 2000

Ian is a Chartered Accountant and is currently Regional Finance Manager with UnitingCare Ageing. Ian has over 30 years experience in the field Finance and Business Administration, previously as Director of Finance, Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney, following many years with a major international accounting firm.

Professor Ian Cameron, MBBS, PhD, FAFRM (RACP)
Board Member since 1999

Ian holds the Chair of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Sydney and is Director of Medical Services at Royal Rehabilitation Centre Sydney. Ian is also a Director of the Centre for Development Disability Studies, a member of the Physiotherapists Registration Board of NSW and a Director of the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Care Association. Ian is a medical specialist with expertise in rehabilitation, research and population health.

Dr Jane Elkington, BSc, MPH, PhD
Board Member since 1999

Jane is a Consultant in health and safety to a range of government and non-government organisations. She has over 15 years experience in research, policy development and program development in injury prevention. Jane has been appointed to a number of state and national ministerial advisory committees including the RTA Road Safety Task Force.

Jennifer Alcock, BSc, Grad Dip OT, MA (Communication Management)
Board Member since 2001

Jennifer is a communications and marketing specialist in the fields of health and safety. During her career she has managed state and national campaigns for the NSW Department of Health and the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care. Jennifer is currently developing safety strategy at the Independent Transport Safety and Reliability Regulator.
