Arabic and Chinese Campaign – working with parents for safer young drivers

Youthsafe’s commitment to equity of access saw us reaching out to multicultural communities during 2004 with the commencement of road safety campaigns in Arabic and Chinese communities. The campaigns aim to inform parents of young drivers in these communities about the information contained in Youthsafe’s fact sheet, ‘Helping teenagers become safer drivers’. Rather than just translating the English fact sheet, we worked with consultants from Multicultural Communications and members of the target communities to:

1. Ensure that the presentation and content of the fact sheet was culturally appropriate and,

2. Identify related road safety information needs.

The project not only resulted in the development of the planned fact sheets, but also a joint pilot project with the RTA to run a Chinese Graduated Licensing Scheme (GLS) workshop.

To view copies of these fact sheets visit Publications and Resources.
