Youthsafe Regional and rural areas
Rural Areas    Presenter Program    Initiatives

What can we offer educators in regional and rural areas?

Although resource constraints make it difficult for our presenters to regularly present at schools outside the Sydney metropolitan area, we have consulted with educators in regional and rural areas to explore alternatives.

Some of the ways in which Youthsafe can assist include:

Teacher and Community Based Educator delivery of sessions

Everyday Risk session plan

We pilot tested delivery of the Everyday Risk Session Plan plan with teachers as well as Youthsafe presenters with good results, so this is an option rural teachers may wish to take up. The Everyday Risk session plan and accompanying risk scenarios are readily available to download. Students can also find out about our presenters.

“What’s the Plan?” Safe Celebrating Kit for Educators

This is a comprehensive DVD and CD-ROM resource containing all the materials and support educators need to deliver sessions to young people on safe celebrating with friends. Pilot tested in a variety of school and community-based settings, such as TAFE, Links to Learning and Youth Centres, the resource kit delivers positive, youth-friendly messages that draw participants’ attention to the need to plan their celebrations with friends. Go to www.whatstheplan.org.au to find out more.

Safe Travel Parent Fact Sheets

During our consultations in rural areas we identified a need for a fact sheet about safe travel to and from high school for new high school students. This resource, “On the way to high school: tips for safe travel” is now available for you to download.
