Youthsafe Safeclub
Safeclub    Initiatives

SafeClub is all about helping local sports clubs make their sport safer. Experts say that risk management safety plans are the best way to improve safety for community sports however in an audit of community sports clubs it was shown that very few clubs have these plans or even the capacity to develop them .

SafeClub aims to address this void. It is a user-friendly and flexible approach to sports safety that has been developed especially for community sport administrators. It focuses on the fundamentals of risk management using a practical and interactive approach. SafeClub is a joint initiative of Youthsafe and Northern Sydney Central Coast Health.

In partnership with the NSW Injury Risk Management Research Centre at the University of NSW and with funding support from the NSW Sporting Injuries Committee, a 2-year controlled trial evaluation of SafeClub involving 76 soccer clubs has recently been completed. Download the evaluation report here.

SafeClub was recognized at the 2006 Australian Risk Management Awards as ‘Best Risk or Compliance Education and Training Program’ and also won a gold award at the NSW Sports Safety Awards in 2006. In addition, individual clubs who participated in SafeClub received gold and bronze awards at the 2005 NSW Sports Safety Awards for their risk management-based safety programs.
